Studio Gennaio has designed an elevated rear extension to a property in Penylan, Cardiff, to create a bright, spacious kitchen and utility space, with direct connection to the garden. Situated on a hill, the garden level is much lower than the internal floor level, and so Studio Gennaio sat the new space on a concrete plinth which showcases the bespoke Douglas fir sliding sash windows and bifolding doors. Made from timber frame and filled with breathable, eco-friendly wood fibre insulation, the new structure feels light and airy, with light from the rooflights dappled by the exposed ceiling joists.
